Princess of The Silver Woods Book Review

Princess Petunia is kidnapped! Attacked by the notorious Wolves of Westfalin while traveling to visit the Grand Duchess Volenskaya and accidentally kidnapped by their ring leader Oliver, Petunia finds herself in the middle of a cleverly laid plan where no one is as they seem.

Of all of Jessica Day George’s books in the Princess of Westfalin series, stylistically, this is the best written one. In my opinion, they get better as they go, her writing style developing and progressing in quality as she writes more.

Princess of the Silver Woods centers around Princess Petunia, the youngest of the twelve princesses of Westfalin. I really enjoyed the character of Princess Petunia. I liked the fun element that Day George threw in by mentioning numerous times throughout the book that Petunia was short, which being short myself, I really enjoyed. Especially when all her dresses were too long for her and had to be shortened. Very relatable.

Considerations:

One thing that was different from Jessica Day George’s other books that I have read was that characters actually swore. If it occurred more often it would have bothered me more, but since it only happened a couple of times, it made the character more realistic to me. However, it certainly made me choose to not give it to my young sister to read. Once, while hiding under their bed, Oliver sees the princesses ankles while they change, however nothing sexual happens or is hinted at. The princesses also get rather fierce and bloodthirsty when it came to the Under Stone princes, fighting each other for the chance to shoot at them. In my opinion, this was unbecoming to them as ladies and as princesses. Oliver also kisses Petunia multiple times.

Moral Value: 3.5

Artistic Value: 4.5

Overall Value: 4
