Mr. Pipes and The Psalms and Hymns of the Reformation Book Review

“Mr. Pipes laughed softly, “Of course I remember that day, my dear, and I’m so glad you remember my little stories.”

Join Mr. Pipes for another exciting adventure with Annie and Drew as they uncover the stories behind the psalms and hymns of the Reformation! Taking the summer to travel across Europe with Mr. Pipes, Annie and Drew encounter some of the most interesting tales concerning the writers of some of our most beloved hymns. Mystery lurks around each corner, and an unexpected detour is taken to… a dairy farm?

I can highly recommend Mr. Pipes and the British Hymn Makers by Douglas Bond as a wonderful book for elementary readers and also as a wonderful read aloud. Not only is it an interesting, engaging, and completely clean book, it teaches the beautiful story of church history and the history behind the songs that primarily made up Christian worship for hundreds of years in a way that makes it easy to remember.

Moral Value: 5/5 Note: Douglas Bond is Anglican, and naturally that is reflected in the book.

Artistic Value: 5/5

Overall Value: 5/5
