Ember Rising Book Review

“My place beside you, my blood for yours, till the Green Ember rises, or until the end of the world.”

Ember Rising is the third installment in the Green Ember series, and though I was under the assumption as I read it that it was the last, I became woefully aware of my mistake as I finished it. It ended with, in my opinion, a brutal cliff hanger. Though I believe it was the one I had been waiting for for about 600 pages, I had given up on it, which is rather ridiculous since Smith’s tale is flooded with hope. Ember Rising chronicles Picket and Heather’s continued labor for the hope of The Mended Wood. Picket has to lay aside all fear, and Heather has to face what she fears most.

In Ember Rising the Scribe of the Cause hand delivers hope to the darkest and farthest reaches of Natalia, and Picket Packslayer infiltrates First Warren with the message that even Morbin is not as invincible as he may appear. A story bursting with hope, it is a tale for both the brave and the weary souls who look for hope in a hopeless world. S.D. Smith is a Christian and I have loved the allegorical parallels in the Green Ember Series. Though we labor hard for the cause, there is yet hope.
