“We moved to our land in Tennessee in December 2016, the dead of winter… We settled into the restored olive-green farmhouse on seventeen acres of possibility and started drawing out plans for our dreams: to beautify the land, to make it a home for us and for animals, to grown organic food for us and the community, and to gather people around the table at farm dinners filled with abundance.”

Following her and her family’s journey from urban Texas on the hunt for organic and local foods, all the way to their farm days in Tennessee, The Kindred Life by Christine Marie Bailey is an honest and encouraging book about creating a life of deep and nourishing connections. In a world of online community, Bailey encourages the reader to dig deep, commune with our Creator, and intentionally build an authentic community. She shares candidly of the journey she has been on to slow down, savor the little moments, and get her hands dirty alongside friends and family at her farm, The Kindred Farm.

Reading this book was like a breath of fresh air, encouraging me to slow down, to take the time to make memories, and to work to have authentic and intentional relationships with all those around me, family, friends, and the Lord. Bailey writes about farm life, business ownership, and life in general in an organic and personal way, sharing what she’s passionate about in a relatable manner. Oh, and did I mention, the photos that are generously sprinkled throughout the book are gorgeous! Though this book is the perfect read for anyone contemplating homesteading and farming for market since Bailey shares freely about her experience starting her farm alongside her husband, it is also for those longing for deep and fulfilling connection, for those who want to have a kindred life.
